Top Ten Advantages of Advocating

After ten years of actively advocating for occupational therapy in the political arena in Washington State, I have learned that I can:

1.  Keep current in political events

2.  Learn how relatively easy it is to communicate with your legislators

3.  Find excitement in making a positive difference for my profession

4.  Connect with other OTs who share my excitement for OT advocacy

5.  Be a leader in my state OT association

6.  Increase my knowledge of the political process

7.  Build my skills in developing an argument for OT practice

8.  Build my skills in delivering a testimony for OT practice

9.  Contribute back to this wonderful profession

10.  Benefit my clients and their families through active advocacy
